CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : MONTEREY PENINSULA : Drought Dries Up Construction Plans

Communities in the Monterey area will reject all applications for new water meters because of the continuing drought there, the Monterey Peninsula Water Management Agency said. The decision, which is expected to slow construction in the area, was made by the agency over the protests of building industry representatives. Cities in the area have been under strict water rationing since last January because of a three-year rainfall shortage.
