California Amplifier Reports Profit Gains

California Amplifier reported a $228,000 profit for its fiscal third quarter, compared with a previous year loss of $287,000, but the Camarillo company warned of difficult times ahead.
The company said the latest profit came from a 41% surge in sales for the quarter ending Nov. 30, to $3.09 million from $2.19 million. The gains were led by higher sales for California Amplifier’s electronic components that are used in television receivers only (TVRO) or home satellite dishes.
However, a company spokesman said the TVRO products are about to enter a period of slower sales, and “we anticipate a down-turn during the next few quarters” for that product line.
For the first nine months of this fiscal year, California Amplifier earned $183,000 compared with a year-earlier loss of $245,000, while its nine-month sales rose 26% to $8.38 million from $6.65 million.
