CHICAGO — Dr. Jacob Suker, team physician for the Chicago Cubs since 1962 and an associate professor of medicine at Northwestern University Medical School, has died. He was 63.
Suker, of suburban Kenilworth, died at home Thursday of lung cancer.
“This guy was a good man,” said Cubs Manager Don Zimmer. “He just loved to be around the ballpark. He loved the players. He loved baseball.
“He was a real pistol; he was one of the guys. Even this summer, when I knew he was in trouble, he never complained,” Zimmer said. “We’ll really miss him.”
