Harperstown Is Winner in Feature at Aqueduct

NEW YORK — Harperstown took the lead entering the stretch and went on to a 2 1/4-length victory over Sand Devil in the $34,000 North Sea Purse for 4-year-olds and up Wednesday at Aqueduct.
Sand Devil, ridden by Mike Smith, had the lead going into the stretch and held on for second in the nine-horse field, another 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Onnagata, with Art Madrid up.
Harperstown carried 117 pounds, including Angel Cordero, over the 1 1/16 miles in 1:46.
Harperstown earned $20,400 for Loblolly Stable with his third win in nine career starts. The winner, who was the favorite, returned $3.80, $2.80 and $3.20. Sand Devil paid $6.20 and $5, and Onnagata paid $8.40.
