The El Segundo City Council has approved the Mattel Toys Inc. signs that the firm will use to identify its new 15-story corporate headquarters building at Grand Avenue and North Continental Boulevard in El Segundo.
The toy company’s sign was a landmark for years along the San Diego Freeway in Hawthorne, where the company was founded 44 years ago.
Mattel purchased the El Segundo building, which has been vacant since its construction in 1987, to replace its aging headquarters. The two rooftop signs, each containing the company logo and the words “Mattel Toys,” are 536 square feet each.
