NATION IN BRIEF : ALASKA : Volcano Peril to Oil Terminal Studied

Redoubt Volcano was quiet, but Alaska environmental officials labored over plans to prevent a major oil spill if more violent eruptions damage a nearby oil storage facility. Hot mud flows this week got as far as the Drift River facility, 22 miles north, but dikes surrounding the tanks prevented damage that might result in a spill, said officials at the Environmental Conservation Department, the Alaska Volcano Observatory and the Cook Inlet Pipeline Co.
