World IN BRIEF : SPAIN : Poisonous Acid Suspected in Fire

Most of the 43 victims in a nightclub fire in Zaragosa were overwhelmed by thick fumes that spread quickly through the disco, officials said. They reported that the fumes may have contained a highly poisonous substance, hydrocyanic acid. It was not clear how the substance, which can quickly cause cardiac arrest, might have been released. The fire apparently was sparked by an overloaded electrical system. All those who died have been identified as Spaniards, although the club is about 10 miles from a U.S. military base.
