A heavyset man whom authorities have dubbed “The Refrigerator” is being sought as a suspect in more than a dozen bank robberies, Los Angeles police said Monday.
The man, who is about 5-feet-7 and weighs between 200 and 230 pounds, apparently began committing his crimes in September and is believed to have struck banks in Hollywood, Los Feliz, Eagle Rock, Wilshire and the Mid-City areas, Detective Jim Barry said. The man, who is between 35 and 45 years old, has dirty blond hair, possibly slightly graying, blue eyes and is clean-shaven. He also is believed to have held up banks in Alhambra, Pasadena and Glendale.
Barry declined to say how much money the robber has stolen.
No one has been hurt in any of the robberies, though several tellers told police they saw a gun in the man’s possession.
