NATION IN BRIEF : ARIZONA : Judge Won’t Dismiss Charge in ’76 Murder

A judge in Phoenix refused to dismiss a murder charge against a former plumber whom prosecutors want to try a second time in the 1976 car bomb slaying of newspaper reporter Don Bolles. Defendant James Robison’s attorney said he would file an immediate appeal. In his ruling, Superior Court Judge Thomas O’Toole rejected claims that the state attorney general’s office had no jurisdiction to file a murder complaint against Robison. Robison was convicted of first-degree murder in 1977, but the Arizona Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1980.
