General Electric: The Fairfield, Conn.-based conglomerate said 1989 profit rose 16% to $3.94 billion on revenue of $54.6 billion, up 9%. Fourth-quarter net income totaled $1.17 billion, up 16%, as revenue rose 5% to $16.2 billion. The company attributed its third consecutive year of double-digit earnings increases to strong performances in financial services, plastics and medical systems.
