Union Bank: The San Francisco bank said net income in 1989 totaled $138.9 million. In 1988, net income was $60.2 million. The two figures are not comparable, however, because 1989 was the first full year of earnings for Union Bank, which was created Nov. 1, 1988, following the acquisition of Union Bank, Los Angeles, by California First Bank. The company attributed the increase in earnings to the acquisition and improved profitability.
