A 69-year-old San Diego man was hit by a car and killed crossing a street Tuesday evening, police said.
Rodney Smith was crossing West Mission Bay Drive when he was struck by a westbound car at 5:39 p.m., said Sgt. Jim Clear of the San Diego Police Department. Investigators believe Smith “was at fault--that he walked into the path of the vehicle,” Clear said.
Smith was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m., said San Diego Deputy Coroner David Lodge. Smith, a resident of the 3600 block of Bayside Way, apparently was taking his customary evening walk, Lodge said.
Police are investigating.
