Hughes Wins Missile Pact: Hughes Aircraft won a $201-million Navy contract to produce 420 Phoenix air-to-air missiles, a significant victory over its archrival Raytheon. The Navy selected Raytheon to compete with Hughes in the Phoenix, Maverick and AMRAAM missile programs. The Phoenix order, which the Navy awarded entirely to Hughes, could be a favorable indication of Hughes’ ability to compete with Raytheon on other programs.
