SPECIAL ELECTION : 31st State Senate District Race

Voters in the 31st state Senate District go to the polls today to elect a replacement for former state Sen. William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights).
Hours: Polls in the district, which stretches from West Covina to Laguna Niguel, open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
Candidates: Eight candidates are in the race. Republican candidates are: Assemblyman Gil Ferguson (Newport Beach); Assemblyman Frank Hill (Whittier); Gary Miller, a Diamond Bar city councilman; and Ron Isles, a Brea city councilman. The Democratic candidates are: Janice Graham, a Democratic Party officer from Laguna Hills; Bradley McFadden, a West Covina city councilman; and Thomas Whaling, a lawyer from El Toro. The American Independent Party candidate is Robert Lewis, an engineer from Rowland Heights.
Runoff: If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, an election with the top vote-getter in each party on the ballot will be held April 10.
