Monrovia Council OKs 45-Day Hillside Building Moratorium

MONROVIA — The City Council last week unanimously approved a 45-day building moratorium for the city’s remaining undeveloped hillsides.
Planning officials will review the city’s hillside development standards adopted in 1980 and re-examine the Cloverleaf Specific Plan, Planning Director Robert Kastenbaum said.
The 1984 plan established development guidelines for the 356-acre area.
The building ban was prompted by overwhelming resident opposition to a residential development proposal within the Cloverleaf area, which stretches north from Lotone Avenue to the Angeles National Forest.
A public hearing must be held at the end of 45 days if the city wants to extend the moratorium.
