Dead Fetus Found in Hospital Trash

A dead female fetus was discovered in a trash bin at Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar early Sunday, police said.
A janitor found the fetus in the trash bin of a women’s restroom about 10:30 a.m., said Lt. Richard Iddings of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit.
Investigators believe the mother placed the fetus in the waste can shortly after giving birth that morning, Iddings said. The mother has not been found, he said.
An autopsy will be performed on the fetus later this week to determine the exact cause of death, Iddings said.
