PACIFIC 10 BASKETBALL : Payton Gets 30, Oregon State Wins

Gary Payton scored 30 points and led a 7-0 second-half run with a three-point basket as No. 18 Oregon State held on for a 57-55 victory over Oregon Sunday at Corvallis, Ore.
The Beavers (18-3, 11-1 in the Pac-10), who beat Oregon (11-10, 6-6) for the third time this season, maintained their two-game lead in the conference race.
Payton made a three-point shot to give Oregon State a 50-47 lead with 4:31 left. Payton fed Earl Martin for a layup 20 seconds later, and Martin added two free throws to boost Oregon State’s lead to 54-47 with three minutes left.
The Ducks got close in the final minute on baskets by Terrell Brandon and Keith Reynolds.
Stanford 59, Washington 48--Deshon Wingate scored 22 points and sparked a rally in the half that pushed the Cardinal past the Huskies at Stanford.
Washington (9-13, 3-10) had a 36-30 lead when Stanford (14-7, 6-6) took control with a 17-3 run midway through the second half. Wingate scored eight of his points during that span, including an alley-oop dunk.
