Mack Trucks Inc.: The producer of heavy duty diesel trucks and truck parts posted a net loss of $185.4 million for 1989, contrasted with a profit of $31.8 million in 1988. Sales totaled $1.75 billion, down 17%. For the fourth quarter, the Allentown, Pa., firm reported a loss of $79.5 million, contrasted with net income of $13.8 million a year earlier. Sales for the period were $370.8 million, a drop of 32%. The results were attributed to declines in sales volume and gross margins, higher warranty and related costs and used vehicle liquidation costs, higher interest costs and charges of $12.9 million for the settlement of disputed claims with a major supplier and $12.3 million for employee and other termination costs.
