Embattled Councilman Won’t Seek Reelection

Councilman Odell L. Snavely, a South Gate councilman who was placed on probation last month after pleading no contest to charges of contributing to the delinquency of two teen-age girls, has decided not to seek reelection.
Snavely, 71, said he had decided at the start of his current four-year term that he would not seek reelection. His council seat, which he has occupied since 1979, is on the April 10 ballot.
In January, a Municipal Court commissioner placed Snavely on two years’ probation, fined him $500 and ordered him not to associate with children under 14 unless other “responsible adults are present.”
Snavely was charged with harboring two teen-age girls at his toy store during school hours.
