Machinists Reject Pact: Machinist workers at Lockheed Corp. overwhelmingly rejected management’s contract offer. Union negotiators had earlier turned down the offer and urged their members to do the same. The union, known as the International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, represents about 20,000 workers at Lockheed plants in Palmdale, Burbank and Sunnyvale and Marietta, Ga. The workers’ contract had been set to expire Oct. 1, but the expiration was extended while talks continued.
