I am a political independent for whom a conservative ideologue is one who often romanticizes about a past that never was, while the liberal ideologue fantasizes about a future that can never be.
The Constitution and the Bill of Rights were the result of violent disagreements among the Founding Fathers that summer in 1787. This nation survives wars, depressions, assassinations and even inept Presidents because of constructive tempering and channeling of the tensions in our society.
Mr. Buchanan, remember that conservatives Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan went to China and the Soviet Union and liberal Harry Truman was responsible for the Marshall Plan and the Ring of Steel (SAC) to neutralize Russia.
