Jimmy Carter Heads for Mideast to Help Revive Peace Process

ATLANTA — Former President Jimmy Carter headed to the Middle East on Sunday in an attempt to jump-start the stalled peace process in which he played a key role more than 10 years ago.
Carter, his wife, Rosalynn, and an aide, Kenneth Stein, were scheduled to visit Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Israel during a nine-day tour of the area beginning in Cairo and ending in Jerusalem. Stein is director of the Carter Center’s Middle Eastern Studies program.
Carter will meet with heads of state, Arab leaders and members of the business, religious and academic communities.
