Britain’s Princess Anne, an avid horsewoman, will give up competitive riding when she turns 40 in August, according to the London Daily Mail.
“I have been advised that people over 40 really should not go on,” the princess reportedly said.
Anne rode in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, was the 1971 European Three-Day Event champion and recently competed in flat and steeplechase races in Britain and the United States. She’s also working on a book about her riding career, due out on her birthday and entitled “Me and My Horses.”
Anne, the mother of two who is separated from her husband, also keeps busy with about 500 public engagements each year plus extensive work abroad for the Save the Children foundation.
