ATLANTA — Kim Basinger declared herself “just a proud Georgian” as she picked up an award honoring her film roles and her purchase of the Georgia hamlet of Braselton.
State employees put the phones on hold and hung on the actress’ every word as she was named an “Outstanding Georgian” during a ceremony Monday in the office of Secretary of State Max Cleland. She is a native of Athens.
Basinger, star of “Batman” and “9 1/2 Weeks,” said her plans for Braselton are still being developed and she can’t talk too much about them. In the past she has discussed building recording and film studios.
She met with the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance concerning her purchase of the Bank of Braselton, spoke to young cancer patients at a hospital and appeared Monday night at a fund-raiser for Cleland’s reelection campaign.
