SOMIS : School District to Celebrate 50 Years
- Share via
The Mesa Union Elementary School District has set festivities to mark its 50th year.
The district began with a 1939 Studebaker for a school bus and 68 students, growing to 350 today. Land for the district’s first school was purchased for $500 an acre.
Alumni, nearby residents and anyone connected to its history will be invited to attend events marking Mesa Union’s 50th birthday on May 20.
“It is going to be a lot of fun,” said Supt. Dennis J. Convery. “Mesa has a glorious history. It is very much a sense of family, of belonging.”
Students are preparing a history of the district using old records and artifacts. The district plans an open house and musical entertainment to mark the anniversary.
