B of A Offers Check Purchase Protection: Bank of America, seeking to woo depositors and take the lead in a new trend in the industry, become the latest bank to offer free extended-warranty and loss-protection for goods bought with the banks’ checks. Citibank and Chase Manhattan Bank in New York plan to start similar programs next week following the lead of First Chicago last week and several smaller banks, Valley National Bank in Phoenix, Napa Valley Bank in California and CrossLand Savings Bank in New York.
