Michael A. Carpenter, president and chief executive of Kidder, Peabody & Co., New York, was elected to the additional post of chairman. Carpenter succeeds Silas S. Cathcart, who retired in January. Two Kidder executives were elected to the board: Scott C. Newquist, managing director and head of Kidder’s investment banking group, and Richard W. O’Donnell, chief financial and administrative officer.
