A 6-year-old kindergartner suffered massive head injuries Tuesday after he ran into a street and was struck by a car near Bostonia Elementary School in El Cajon, police said.

Kyle B. Davis was flown to Children’s Hospital, where he was on a life-support system, a hospital supervisor said.

Davis and a friend were waiting to be picked up about 11:25 a.m. at Grape Street and Broadway when he ran north on Broadway toward his school, police spokeswoman Sheri Naumann said. He was run over by a 1984 Toyota pickup truck driven by Todd Higgens, 25, of El Cajon, Naumann said.

Higgens was not held and police are investigating.
