A 13-year-old Tarzana boy on a bicycle was killed Friday when he was hit by a dump truck after its driver ran a red light, Los Angeles police reported.
Jose Garcia died at the scene at White Oak Avenue and Hatteras Street, Police Sgt. Dennis Zine said.
Police identified the driver of the dump truck as Javier Sandoval, 26, of Northridge. He was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and taken to the Van Nuys station jail, Zine said.
Garcia was crossing White Oak in the crosswalk and with a walk signal when Sandoval hit him, knocking him to the ground, Zine said.
Sandoval, who was pulling a trailer on his truck, was driving about 10 miles over the 35 m.p.h. speed limit when he hit Garcia.
