Walk Gives Point Loma Nazarene Victory

Pacific Lutheran pitcher Steve Metzenberg walked in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as Point Loma Nazarene won a nonconference baseball game, 5-4, Wednesday in Point Loma.
Senior third baseman Mark Ratekin drove in two runs for PLNC (13-22-1). Paul Martin (1-2) earned the victory in relief. Pacific Lutheran is 12-11-1.
WOMEN’S GOLF
U.S. International finished 14th and San Diego State 17th in the Arizona State Invitational on the par-72, 6,090-yard Karsten Golf Course. USIU shot 963 over the three-day, 54-hole tournament, and SDSU finished at 974.
The tournament was won by defending champion Arizona State, which shot 882. Arizona took second (899) and defending NCAA champion San Jose State third (901). Kelly Robbins of Tulsa shot a seven-under 209 for the individual title, one stroke better than Arizona State’s Brandie Burton.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Long Beach State defeated UC San Diego, 15-7, 15-7, 16-14, in a nonconference match in La Jolla. The 49ers, ranked third in Division I, are 23-5. UCSD (4-16) got 13 kills from Bryan Palmer and 12 from Nate Brown.
ICE SKATING
Reigning Olympic gold medalists Brian Boitano and Katarina Witt will star in a contemporary ice review May 17 at the San Diego Sports Arena. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show go on sale Monday.
