MGM/UA Communications Loss Shrinks: The Culver City entertainment firm said its second-quarter loss narrowed to $9.8 million while revenue fell 27% to $176.8 million. A year earlier, MGM/UA lost $14.7 million. The decline in revenue was blamed primarily on the fact that few movies were in release while the company was up for sale. Pathe Communications Corp. is trying to complete a buyout of MGM/UA for $1.27 billion.
