The NCAA Division I basketball committee decided to withhold $10,000 of Purdue’s share of the 1990 tournament revenues and reprimand Coach Gene Keady for his outburst against the officiating after the university’s second-round loss to Texas on March 18.
Purdue Athletic Director George King said Keady will pay the $10,000 out of his own pocket.
“Coach Keady opted to pay the $10,000 himself because he believes this is his problem and he will take care of it,” King said.
The action reduced Purdue’s revenue from the tournament to about $560,000, a portion of which goes to the Big Ten Conference.
