SAN DIEGO — Cal’s Michele Granger threw a no-hitter Saturday but still lost to host U.S. International, 1-0.
Granger, a redshirt freshman from Valencia High School, allowed two walks, one to USIU’s Shannon Riley to lead off the second inning. Riley went to second on Granger’s wild pitch and third on a ground out by Staci Moser. Granger (15-10), who struck out six, then threw another wild pitch to Debbie Buford, which allowed Riley to score.
Granger’s earned-run average is below 0.40.
USIU’s Cindy Oliver allowed two hits while improving her record to 10-14.
USIU (22-24) also won the second game against the eighth-ranked Bears, 3-1. The Gulls have now beaten five top 10 teams. Cal is 26-21.
