A third-degree assault charge was filed against Denver Bronco tackle Gerald Perry after a witness came forward who claimed to have seen Perry punch a man in a bar, Denver police said.
The charge is a class one misdemeanor, punishable by a $5,000 fine and up to two years in jail.
Perry C. Powell of Denver filed a complaint against Perry, claiming the 6-foot-6, 305-pound tackle punched him in the eye at the Spruce Street Lounge April 13, police said.
Perry, who had been undergoing psychiatric counseling after his second conviction last fall for solicitation of prostitution, has been sent by the Broncos to an Arizona drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic.
