A man was arrested on suspicion of arson Monday after firefighters put out two small house fires that authorities believe were started by Molotov cocktails.
David Lopez, 20, of Orange allegedly threw glass containers with flammable liquid at occupied houses in the 400 and 500 block of North Lemon Street about 2 a.m. Monday. Police Sgt. Robert Gustafson said none of the occupants of the houses were injured.
Damage was estimated at $5,000 to one of the houses, and at $150 to the other.
Police arrested Lopez about two hours after the fires, using a description of the getaway vehicle provided by a witness, Gustafson said. Lopez was being held in Orange County Jail on suspicion of arson of inhabited structures, Gustafson said. His bail was set at $25,000.
Gustafson said no motive has been established. The police investigation is continuing.
