NATION : Big 3 U.S. Car Sales Off 20.5%

DETROIT — Sales of American-made cars and light trucks by the nation’s Big Three auto makers plummeted 20.5% in mid-April compared to last year, when incentives were far more generous, the companies said today.
The companies said they sold an average of 30,742 cars and light trucks a day during the April 11-20 period this year compared to a rate of 38,686 a day during the same time last year.
Car sales dropped 23% and truck sales were off 16.6%.
