COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Cypress Slips Past Orange Coast, 1-0

COSTA MESA — Cypress College’s softball team moved into first place with a 1-0 Orange Empire Conference victory over Orange Coast Monday at OCC.
Cypress scored in the first inning when Teresa Anderson hit an opposite-field double to left. She went to third on a groundout by Rose Ferrante.
Tricia Barr hit a bloop single to right, scoring Anderson. Sally Dugas followed with a single, but OCC pitcher Kristin Heizer got the final two outs.
Cypress had a double in the second inning by Collene Conahan, but didn’t get another hit.
Dugas (17-3) allowed six hits in seven innings to get the victory for Cypress (34-5, 12-2 in conference), which holds a half-game lead over OCC (29-10, 12-3) with four games remaining.
OCC has three games left and the teams are not scheduled to meet again.
OCC got a runner to third with two outs in the second, and had the bases loaded in the third with two outs but couldn’t score either time.
Terrie Hubbard had a one-out single in the seventh but Dugas got the final two batters out to end the game.
Heizer (23-6) pitched a four-hitter but took the loss.
