Pickup Overturns Near Alpine, 1 Dead

A 26-year-old San Diego man was killed early Saturday when the pickup he was driving along Interstate 8 in the Alpine area crashed through the road’s center divider and overturned.
A passenger, whose name was not available, was listed in serious condition at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
The dead man was identified as Armando Garcia Mancillia. It was not clear why he lost control of the pickup.
The crash occurred at 2:07 a.m., near the Tavern Road intersection of Interstate 8. The driver was dead at the scene.
The vehicle, heading west at a high rate of speed, crossed the center divider, overturned several times and came to rest in the eastbound lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident. The driver and the passenger were both ejected from the pickup, authorities said.
