COMMUNITY COLLEGE SWIMMING : Orange Coast Women Win Fifth Title in a Row

Orange Coast College won its fifth consecutive Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming and diving title Saturday at Saddleback College.
Orange Coast finished the three-day meet with 772 1/2 points. San Diego Mesa (475) was second, Palomar (386 1/2) third, Saddleback (371) fourth, Grossmont (365) fifth, Riverside (286) sixth and Cypress (167) seventh.
Orange Coast set a conference record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1 minute 57.21 seconds to break its mark of 1:57.49 set in 1988.
Marna Clark of Orange Coast set a conference record in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.13) to break her own record (1:03.69) set last year.
Tricia Gibb and Celina Lemke of Orange Coast each won two events. Gibb won the 50-yard breaststroke Friday (32.08) and the 100 breaststroke Saturday (1:09.65). Lemke won the 100 individual medley (1:02.37) Saturday and the 200 IM (2:15.61) Thursday.
Orange Coast also won the men’s division with 831 points. Palomar (518) was second, Mesa (514) third, Grossmont (367) fourth, Saddleback (359) fifth, Cypress (354) sixth and Riverside (272) seventh.
Orange Coast swept the 200-yard backstroke: Bob Bentley won in (2:02.00), Mike McNeff (2:02.97) was second, Bob Seely (2:04.66) was third, Mark Salkeld (2:05.84) was fourth and Shawn Duffy (2:07.16) fifth.
Phil Reget of Orange Coast won the 100-yard freestyle (47.62) and teammate Paul Barrera (1:56.63) won the 200 butterfly. Ray Turner (2:12.70) of Cypress won the 200 breaststroke by .02 over Hans Weyland of OCC. Orange Coast also won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:13.23) and the 800 freestyle relay (7:11.67).
