Memorial Day Parade in Brentwood Canceled

The annual Memorial Day Parade in Brentwood has been canceled for lack of funds, its sponsor announced this week.
“We tried, but the money just wasn’t there,” said Sharri Crane, president of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce.
The parade along San Vicente Boulevard, which last year attracted 20,000 people, cost $30,000 to produce, and the chamber had “only about $5,000 in the kitty” after several financial institutions which had given support in the past pulled out earlier this year, she said.
However, chamber officials said that a 5- and 10-kilometer run that has preceded the parade will continue. It is expected to draw between 3,000 and 4,000 runners, they said.
