San Ysidro

Two people were wounded Thursday in San Ysidro when a man police believe was arguing with another man over smuggling migrant workers across the border opened fire, a police spokesman said.

Bill Robinson said the two men were arguing in the parking lot of the El Pollo restaurant in the 3000 block of Beyer Boulevard. Tommy Mitchell, 36, was shot three times by the other man, who fled and is at large, police said.

Mitchell suffered wounds in his right shoulder, forearm and abdomen, Robinson said. He was in serious condition Thursday night at UC San Diego Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Also wounded was Elsa de Alonzo, 21, who was getting out of her parked car when she was struck in the leg. She was treated at Chula Vista Community Hospital.
