A Sun Valley man was arrested early Sunday after police investigating a Los Angeles killing traced him to a home on the east side of Moorpark, authorities said.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Herb Roper said Steven Batres, 19, of North Hollywood was being held on suspicion of murder.
Los Angeles investigators said Batres is suspected of being one of as many as 10 people who chased and attacked Ricardo Camacho, 18, as Camacho walked in North Hollywood about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.
Los Angeles Police Detective Mike Coffey said the attackers punched and kicked Camacho before one of them shot him several times with a handgun. He died instantly, Coffey said.
Roper said Ventura deputies were called after Los Angeles police got a tip that Batres was in Moorpark.
He said Batres surrendered peacefully after deputies evacuated nearby homes.
