A Summer’s Visit With Western Lore

Summer events at the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum. Prices are for non-members; members pay less. The museum frequently shows Western movies. They are not listed unless a member of the production is appearing in person. Other events may be added.

June 9: 2 p.m.; “Out California Way,” 1946 movie starring Monte Hale, who will introduce the screening and answer questions afterward; $1 with museum admission; Wells Fargo Theater.

June 17: 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.; Tom Sauber and Walden Dahl; duo sings and plays Western songs; free; Heritage Court.

June 25-29: 9 a.m. to noon; “Indians and the Mountain Men”; weeklong class for children ages 8 to 12; $50; Mary Pickford Education Center. Class repeats July 9-13 and July 16-20.

July 4: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; barbecue with KMPC-AM (710) broadcasting live; plaza and lawn.

2 and 6 p.m.; “Proving Up,” original drama performed on-air KMPC Radio Theatre; includes champagne reception; $15.

July 7 and 14: 9 a.m. to noon; two-session class of “Indians and the Mountain Men”; for children and parents; $25; Mary Pickford Education Center.

July 9-13: 9 a.m. to noon; “Pioneers,” weeklong class for children ages 8 to 12; $50; Mary Pickford Education Center. Class repeats July 16-20 and July 23-27.

July 21 and 28: “Indians and the Mountain Men”; two-session class for those 18 and over; $35; Mary Pickford Education Center.

July 28: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; “Myles Keogh Program”; seven lectures on a cavalry officer who died at the Little Bighorn; individual lectures $10, entire program $90.

July 29: noon to 3 p.m.; encampment of soldiers depicting frontier military life; free; plaza and lawn.

July 29: 2 p.m.; screening of “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon,” 1949 Western directed by John Ford; cast members Harry Carey Jr. and John Agar will speak; $1 with museum admission.
