Goh to Succeed Lee in Singapore in the Fall

SINGAPORE — First Deputy Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong said Wednesday he will succeed Lee Kuan Yew as prime minister of Singapore in November.
Lee, who has ruled since the former British colony became self-governing in 1959, has said in the past that Goh will succeed him when he steps down before the end of this year.
Goh, 47, has said his objective is to develop a “more participatory, accommodative and cooperative” style of government and to ensure Singapore’s financial well-being.
