NATION IN BRIEF : NORTH CAROLINA : Soldier Faces Trial in Panama Slaying

Military authorities recommended that a Ft. Bragg, N.C., soldier face a court-martial on a charge that he murdered a Panamanian civilian during last December’s invasion of Panama. Lt. Gen. Gary E. Luck, commander of the 18th Airborne Corps, referred the case of Sgt. Enrique Bryan to a general court-martial on a charge of unpremeditated murder, authorities said. Bryan, 42, a native of Panama, is charged with shooting an unidentified Panamanian man with an M-16 rifle on Dec. 23 during the invasion mounted to oust Panamanian dictator Manuel A. Noriega.
