David A. DeLorenzo, a 20-year Dole Food Co. veteran, has been named president of the food production giant. DeLorenzo, previously president of Dole Produce Co., succeeds Robert W. Fisher, who resigned late last month.
DeLorenzo, 43, joined Dole as a management analyst in 1970 and has served in various positions since then. His career with the company, which is a subsidiary of Los Angeles-based Castle & Cooke, includes stints as controller and operations manager in Nicaragua, controller in Honduras, assistant general manager in Costa Rica, and vice president production-Latin America.
He was promoted to president of Dole Fresh Fruit Co., Boca Raton, Fla., in 1986 and became president of Dole Produce in May. In addition to heading up Dole Food Co., DeLorenzo will also serve as executive vice president, office of the chairman of Castle & Cooke.
Harry E. Stephens III was promoted to president of Dole Packaged Foods Co., and Alan B. Sellers will become executive vice president-administration and legal affairs of Castle & Cooke.
Castle & Cooke is a holding company specializing in food production and distribution through Dole Food Co. and real estate development. Company officials are trying to spin off the food business, but efforts have been stalled.
