Inner-City Violence and Gun Control

One of the NRA’s favorite pet expressions in justifying the right of citizens to bear arms is that “guns don’t kill, people do.” How right they are. Unfortunately, some of the people who shoot and kill happen to be children shooting either themselves or other children, with the frequency of accidental shootings among children occurring with shocking regularity in recent months. A recent incident involved a 5-year-old shooting his 10-year-old brother and an 11-year-old neighbor.
These children’s parents may possess these weapons quite legally, but because of improper safety precautions, such as keeping loaded weapons in easily accessible unlocked areas, children have been getting hold of these weapons and shooting each other with alarming frequency.
