WORLD IN BRIEF : COLOMBIA : Paper Cites ‘Secret Deal’ in Drug War

An opposition newspaper accused authorities of making concessions to drug traffickers and asserted that a truce announced by the chief of the Medellin cocaine cartel could be part of “a secret deal” with the government. La Prensa said that last week’s truce announcement came only one day after President Virgilio Barco Vargas lifted emergency military control of three Medellin suburbs.
