A pit bull terrier--allegedly urged on by its owner--bit an Inglewood police officer Sunday night before officers shot and killed the dog, police said.
Alex Olemedo Lorenzo, 29, of Inglewood was charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly ordering the dog to attack Officer Jacqueline Layne, 22. She suffered puncture wounds in both arms.
Police said Layne and her partner were flagged down by a man in the 3900 block of West Century Boulevard who complained that the suspect was harassing people with an unleashed pit bull. Lorenzo allegedly threatened the officers with the dog as they approached and told the dog to charge them, police said.
