SIDELINES : Davin Survives in San Marino

SAN MARINO, Italy — Fourth-seeded Franco Davin of Argentina survived two match points and advanced to the quarterfinals of the San Marino International today with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 victory over Thierry Tulasne.
The 20-year-old left-hander from Buenos Aires trailed Tulasne, 4-5, in the third set and was down 15-40 when he turned the match around by exploiting the Frenchman’s unforced mistakes.
Italy’s Renzo Furlan also qualified for the quarterfinals by beating Francisco Clavet of Spain, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Third-seeded Marcelo Filippini of Uruguay earned a second-round berth by defeating Portugal’s Joao Cunha Da Silva, 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, in a match suspended the previous night.
